Conscious Sedation FAQs
|
What is "Laughing Gas"?
Nitrous Oxide is affectionately known as "laughing gas". It is used to alleviate anxiety during your dental visit. It is administered with a nose piece and you breathe Oxygen combined with Nitrous Oxide gas. You never lose consciousness and are never "out of control", but you don't care too much about what's going on. It's great if you're really worried about dental treatment.
What is Halcion?
Also known as "Triazolam", Halcion is provided to induce a near-sleep state for patients that encounter strong anxiety.
Will I fall asleep?
While you will not be sedated with the intention of sleep induction, you may at times fall asleep due to the deep relaxation.
Will I have an I.V.?
While conscious sedation with Halcion is a great solution for most patients, we still wish to provide all sedation options available. We can arrange for an anesthesiologist to come to our office to provide IV sedation for patients who are in need of it.
Can I drive home?
Driving yourself home will not be an option when you have been administered sedation medication such as Halcion.
